The banner image in the header on this page shows the structure of fungus mycelium in the soil as a representation of mycorrhizal symbiosis. This underground network can serve as a sophisticated communication system, wherein fungal threads interconnect with the root systems of trees and other plants to facilitate the exchange of resources or vital information. It allows plants to share nutrients, warn neighboring plants of potential threats, and even engage in cooperative responses to environmental changes. The mycorrhizal network thus serves as an intricate communication highway, enabling plants to coordinate responses and enhance their collective resilience in the face of various challenges.
This makes a fitting analogy to the role BioOne Connect has in our community. By creating connections that serve mutually beneficial goals within the scholarly publishing ecosystem, we are better able to share beneficial resources while building our resilience as a community.
Special Terms of Use Applicable to BioOne Connect
In addition to the general provisions of BioOne’s Terms of Use, these additional special terms and conditions will apply to BioOne Connect.
BioOne has established BioOne Connect to help meet the needs of its participating publishers for access to cost-effective auxiliary publishing and workflow services. This program provides BioOne publishers with access to a curated list of vendors who have agreed to offer services at a preferred or volume discount rate. The list will be updated from time to time, and BioOne has no obligation to include or maintain any vendor on the list. Listings are non-exclusive so more than one vendor providing a specific service may be included.
Each of the vendors listed on the BioOne Connect webpage has been vetted by BioOne and agreed to a memorandum of understanding regarding the terms of their participation. However, BioOne’s role is strictly limited to facilitation of discussion between publishers and said vendors. Any decision to enter into an agreement with a vendor is entirely within the discretion of the publisher. The publisher is expected to conduct its own due diligence and assessment of the vendor, its services and contractual terms as appropriate for its needs. All agreements will be solely between the publisher and the vendor. BioOne explicitly disclaims any warranty as to the accuracy of information provided or as to the performance of the vendor or the success of the collaboration, and the publisher waives any claim against BioOne for any losses resulting therefrom.
BioOne will receive an administrative fee to offset associated staff time costs, to be paid by the vendor for agreements with BioOne participating publishers that result from BioOne Connect, pursuant to agreements made between BioOne and the vendors.
BioOne Connect aims to meet the needs of BioOne participating publishers for access to cost-effective publishing and workflow services not otherwise provided by BioOne through the BioOne Digital Library. This program provides BioOne publishers with access to a curated and growing list of providers who have agreed to offer services at a preferred or volume discount rate and with the needs of small, independent society publishers in mind.
